The Village of Vicksburg is accepting applications for a part-time position of Customer Service/Cashier and General Support services to serve in the Finance Department.
Responsible for performing diverse Customer Service/Cashier, and general office support services for the area residents, businesses, contractors, realtors, and title offices including opening and/or closing the Village Hall customer service desk, answering the phone, receipting monies paid to the Village, coordinating rental of facilities, cashing out and balancing of drawer, posting of receipts in the computer system etc. Receives and assists walk-in visitors by ascertaining needs; provides positive first impression in explaining Village policies, procedures, and services; refers visitors to appropriate staff or outside agencies; initiates appropriate action and conducts follow-up. Manages difficult or emotional customer situations and provides exceptional customer service.
Provides administrative services including sorting and distributing mail, planning, organizing, and coordinating detail requirements for wide range of meetings and events. Prepares letters and other correspondence for distribution to residents, prepares reports or memoranda, and maintains office files in manual and computerized modes; obtains, gathers, and organizes pertinent data and assembles into usable form. Assists with Utility billing duties involving water and sewer billing, collection, inquiries, change of service, etc.
Performs wide variety of periodic tasks for the Village Manager, Clerk and Treasurer. Provides variety of other clerical, secretarial and administrative support services and special projects as requested to facilitate efficient office operations. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma or equivalent, bookkeeping or accounting experience or related field; 2+ years of experience in a customer service position; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Course work or experience with computers, accounting software, data processing, and spreadsheets, strong math skills, excellent customer service and organizational skills. Experience with BS&A software and advanced knowledge and experience with billing software and fund accounting are a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with village residents, businesspeople, and visitors to the Village Offices; ability to interact with and coordinate activities with other agencies and the members of the Village Council; may occasionally require dealing with un-happy citizens/property owners regarding various matters. Ability to independently organize and schedule assigned work to meet established deadlines in an environment where interruptions may occur frequently; ability to interpret, comprehend and process complex and technical information. Operate a computer at a high level of proficiency. Works well in a team environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Work Schedule/Compensation: 20-24 hours per week ((flexible) additional hours may be needed during peak times), Monday thru Thursday. Pay is $18 plus per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
